Switch your Strengths
"Switch Your Strength" is a career strategy developed by Helen Tupper, a renowned career coach and author, along with Sarah Ellis.
The strategy encourages individuals to focus on leveraging their strengths and passions to achieve success in their careers.
Here's an overview of the key principles of the "Switch Your Strength" strategy:
1. Identify Your Strengths: The strategy begins with self-reflection to identify your core strengths and skills. This involves understanding what you excel at and what energizes you.
2. Leverage Your Strengths: Once you've identified your strengths, the next step is to find opportunities to leverage them in your current role or career path. This might involve seeking projects or assignments that align with your strengths or finding ways to incorporate them into your daily tasks.
3. Develop New Skills: While it's important to focus on your strengths, Tupper also emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and development. This includes acquiring new skills that complement your strengths and help you adapt to changes in your industry or role.
4. Create a Supportive Environment: Surrounding yourself with supportive colleagues, mentors, and networks can help you thrive in your career. Building relationships with people who appreciate and encourage your strengths can provide valuable guidance and opportunities for growth.
5. Embrace Change: The "Switch Your Strength" strategy encourages individuals to be open to change and to actively seek out opportunities for growth and development. This might involve taking on new challenges, pursuing different career paths, or exploring new interests and passions.
Overall, "Switch Your Strength" is about empowering individuals to take control of their careers by focusing on what they do best and leveraging those strengths to achieve their professional goals.
How I use this strategy:
Step 1: Open your digital note-taking app. If you're using an Android device, Google Keep Notes is recommended; for iPhone users, Apple Notes works well. Create two separate notes: one titled "Things I Love Doing" and another titled "Things I Hate Doing."

Step 2: In the "Things I Love Doing" note, jot down all the activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. In the "Things I Hate Doing" note, list tasks that you find unpleasant but are necessary or important for your goals.
Step 3: Transform your daily tasks into a rewarding game. Each time you complete a task from the "Things I Hate Doing" list, reward yourself by allowing time for an activity from the "Things I Love Doing" list.
For example, if you dislike exercising but know it's crucial for your health, you could reward yourself with a favorite TV show episode after completing your workout.
Similarly, if you find networking challenging but necessary for your career, reward yourself with a relaxing hobby after making a certain number of connections or calls.
By gamifying your tasks in this way, you can turn mundane or challenging activities into opportunities for personal growth and enjoyment.
By implementing these strategies and staying committed to your personal growth journey, you can make 2025 a transformative and fulfilling year.
